Should Physical Education be made compulsory in schools?

should physical education be made mandatory in schools

“All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.”

Physical education should be made compulsory in schools because :-

  • It automatically develops awareness about our body, a child from his childhood would know correct postures, correct eating habits, the importance of sports and regular exercises etc.
  • Physical Education and sports develop discipline.
  • It keeps them fit.
  • It will improve their motor skills, hand-eye coordination and reflexes.
  • It will improve their Basal Metabolism Rate (BMR) which will slow their ageing process and keep them away from obesity.
  • A fit body will boost self-confidence and one can take part in various sports too, which in turn will develop team spirit, sportsmanship, leadership qualities, organizing abilities etc.
  • Nutrition habits will improve as through physical education one will learn the side effects of fast food and regular exercising will automatically develop a healthy eating habit.
  • Physical education will also divert a child’s mind from digital devices to outdoor activities.
  • While exercising our body releases endorphins, adrenaline, serotonin and dopamine which makes us feel good, destressed and reduces the perception of pain. A child will feel increased energy levels and focus. Which will, in turn, give positive results in academics too.
  • Research has shown that physically active kids do better in life. Here is some data about physically active kids:
    • There are only 10% chances that they may be obese.
    • Up to 40% higher test results, less chances of smoking and drug abuse.
    • 15% more likely to go to college.
    • About 10% higher earnings.
    • More productive at work.
    • Less health costs.
    • They also turn out to be active parents passing on the same traits and developing the same habits in their children too, which results in an inter-generational cycle.

Conclusion :-

Physical Education is being neglected by most of the schools and parents in this highly competitive environment. The marks children are getting are at the cost of their health which should be avoided and an overall growth mentality has to be formed in the society. Which would lead to a fit and a happy world to live in.

  1. According to me physical education be made compulsory because of first students they have to take care of their health , we know health is wealth . If we have everything but health is not good then we will not be able to enjoy anything. Nowadays in a very early age people they have been suffering various types of decease. Children they like to play and mix with other boys but nowadays most of the people they stay in the apartment so children they don’t get chance rather they are busy with mobile and computer games. As most of the people have nuclear family then children don’t get chance to mix with other. If in school physical education is must at least students will get chance to do something for their health and if it is habit then near future they will continue the exercise etc and they will take care of their health. They have very good education and future they will get very good job but health is not well then he will not be able to enjoy his career so it is very essential for the student.

  2. With Physical Education, students get the opportunity to work as a team, question actions by their peers and accept responsibilities for their own actions.

  3. Physical education is very necessary in todays’s world. Gone are those days when children themselves would come out and play sports. The coverage of sports has decreased. Adding fuel to fire are games like PUBG, computer games, TV shows etc.
Now-a-days children are not forging strong relationships due to isolation through the mobile games. Also obesity has became a common way of life, many start developing health issues in a young age. In order to keep all such problems at bay sports and physical education are necessary, In order to encourage students to take up these we can conduct friendly matches between students , bring good faculty, explain them the negatives of computer games and TV shows and also discuss the same to their parents.

    1. After telling these many opinions & uses, we send our children to same schools which doesn’t have play ground and not even a recreation Hall. Finally we ask for marks and grades. Coming to topic physical education which is an atmost necessary of a child to refresh his brain not only making him physically strong but also mentally and makes discipline.
