Global warming – Causes, Effects & Solutions

global warming

Theme:

  • The latest report from the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), which was released on 4th April 2022 mentioned that extreme steps are needed to prevent climate disaster.

What is Global warming:

  • Global warming is heating up of earth due to the presence of CO2 and other greenhouse gas emissions in the air. The greenhouse gases trap the sun’s heat.

Causes of Global warming:

  • Earth’s temperature changes naturally over time. But due to man-made sources of greenhouse gas emissions, the earth’s temperature is increasing continuously.
  • Deforestation results in less availability of trees to absorb CO2, and hence more CO2 in the atmosphere resulting in more trapping of the sun’s heat.
  • The burning of fossil fuels for several needs such as transportation, and power is increasing the share of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere.
  • Rising materialism is resulting in more production, which releases greenhouse gases.
  • Ever-increasing vehicles usage is increasing fossil fuels usage.

Effects of Global warming:

  • Global warming is causing extreme weather. Winters are now colder and summers are hotter. It is also resulting in more natural disasters such as droughts, floods etc.
  • Millions of people and birds are forced to migrate to other areas.
  • The melting of ice is increasing the sea level. Moreover, more CO2 in seawater is affecting marine life.
  • More pollutants in the air are causing several diseases in people.

Solutions to Global warming:

  • Using renewable energy sources such as solar energy, and wind energy as alternatives to burning fossil fuels can prevent further increases of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere.
  • Planting more trees can result in the balance of CO2 in the atmosphere.
  • Sustainable and eco-friendly living can reverse global warming.

Conclusion:

Global warming is heating up of earth due to the presence of CO2 and other greenhouse gas emissions in the air. The greenhouse gases trap the sun’s heat. Using renewable energy sources such as solar energy, and wind energy as alternatives to burning fossil fuels can prevent further increases of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. Moreover, Sustainable and eco-friendly living can reverse global warming.

Climate change is a product of Global warming

I saw a trend as a young lad in the late 1950’s when the road was wet, strips of the road had been dried off from the heat of motor vehicle engines from traffic that ran over that part of the road. Multiply that million of times all over the planet. But that is just a minor issue.

There is a lighthouse in the local harbour, my mother said when she was a young girl (about in the 1940’s) she could walk out to the lighthouse at low tide, but not any more, it might be beneficial if you were a good swimmer to go that same distance at low tide.
    (2) During the time of NZ prime minister starting 1975 Sir Robert Muldoon. One “Think Big” project in the early1980’s, NZ built the hydroelectric Clyde dam by flooding lot of very useful farming land, the geologist said it is a bad earthquake risk, but it was still built to help soak up melting ice.
    (3) Maybe about 15 years ago (2010) I met a Russian who said the Russians built a big dam, when you look into it (maybe with the help of google-earth) you can see a ex- train stations and railway tracks.
    (4) China moved a lot of their people to build maybe the biggest hydroelectric generation plant in the world. (just to show three, I know of) Yet people still love the warmth of their head in the sand.
    (5) There used to be a lake up in the mountains of South America where the locals used to fish from, Now it has gone and only a desert and a couple derelict fishing boats left.

    (6) Ladybower Reservoir the largest in England was built between 1935 and 1943.

    (7) Lake Lanier is a reservoir in U.S. state of Georgia.

USA The Ludington Pumped Storage Plant is a hydroelectric plant and reservoir in Ludington, near Lake Michigan. Consumers Energy and DTE Energy made a dam to generate electricity during peak electrical use times, then outside peak demand time, they pump the water back up to full up the dam ready for the next day heavy electricity usage, no doubt there could be more similar stories of dams built.

The Nile Delta had the building of the Aswan Dam

Homes in Katonah (USA) was moved from “old Katonah” so the area could be flooded to make lake Katonah to give drinking water to New York.
search engine found Ashokan and Neversink

But wait for it, not even the professionals seem to hit the target right, Whenever I saw a naturalist that made nature programs for television all he talked about is the polar caps melting, that is just the tip of the Iceberg, the real threat is all the snow up in the mountains is melting and trickling down to sea level. That might be why it is easier to climb Mt Everest today, the snow level has retreaded.

With all these hundreds of water dams (if not thousands) of dams, ponds, whatever you want to call them, there is a lot greater surface area for water evaporation, all these dams – ponds could make the water a lot higher temperature than sea or ocean temperature to give faster water evaporation, so that is why there is lots more heavier rain and more summer floods.

I live near a small water pond next the local seagulls use it it have their wash in it from time to time. In the heat of summer, I took a thermometer to measure the temperature one early afternoon in beginning of April the water temperature was 6⁰c above the air temperature, maybe the black rocks at the bottom of it did not help keep cool, I am sure they help raise the water temperature greater to accelerate water evaporation compared to if the rocks were white, it is hard to see just how much water evaporates as the city council just keeps topping it up. When there is a city water shortage crisis , The water supply is turned off, so the only water in it would be from daily rain.

The worse thing is people think the Earth is cooling, so they are doing there best to make sure we accelerate global warming, How can sea temperatures rise if the earth is cooling, What kind of science teacher did they have at school?
As I walk around the local city CBD (Central Business District) in the middle of winter there are people choking the footpath drinking at tables, wearing summer clothing with a heater beaming down on them, go inside the indoor part is empty and a lot warmer.

  2. Im writing to rise awareness about the pressing issue of global warming and encourage us to take collective action to mitigate its devastiing effects on our planet….

Global warming is the emerging issue which many of common citizens dont take it serious.
But at the end of the day it effects all of us.As mentioned ,the preventions are ideally perfect for the reduction of global warming but practically to be applicable, the alternatives should be developed technically more so that they can be used more effectively.

Renewable energy sources should be developed more and we can see many buildings ,stadiums have already started to build the solar panel equipments and they are contributing for the use of renewable sources.

Sustainable eco-friendly living means ENERGY not foremost or imagine if you used sewage biofuel algal mix endless ENERGY + biofuel at scale replaces fossil only this burns at 85% less CO2…renewable not GRID ABILITY SCOPE, rather small localised scale our best bet so future secured better, if the natural process used to treat all waste there SEWAGE LANDFILL TOXIC with no emissions nor wastewater neither!
SADLY NO ONE WILLING TO CREATE NEW MODEL YET & global warming we’ve been talking about stopping since the 60s PLEASE WAKE UP ACT ACCORDINGLY…
