We can discuss how parents should raise their children.
- Parents should explain boundaries but should allow children to be independent and to explore the world in their own way. You can add this quotation – “There are only two lasting things we can hope to give our children: one is roots & the other is wings“. Roots to keep them grounded and wings to set them free.
- Roots are as important as wings. Balance is needed. Without wings, children will not explore the world and without roots, they will miss having a guiding force.
We can also discuss culture & traditions.
- Each society establishes a certain set of rules on what is good and what is bad. Often culture involves the knowledge that is gained from many years. Culture helps in avoiding the mistakes that are already committed and proven wrong by our ancestors. It helps in saving time and stays with us like roots.
- But as nothing is perfect, all cultures have some wrong notions imbibed in them. What is considered as wrong by a particular culture may not be actually wrong. Self-introspection happens when people explore other cultures and understand the different perspectives. To achieve this, one should have the liberty to interact with other cultures and to go beyond their limits.
- In the era of globalisation, people of different cultures are living in the same city. Developed countries are turning into melting pots. And we can observe that many people who migrated to other countries keep their culture intact and will imbibe the culture of their host country to mingle with the people there.
Roots & wings can also be related to trees & birds and thereby to the ecosystem.
- Deforestation is causing the loss of birds. And our cities are not friendly to bird species. Loss of habitat is causing the extinction of many species.
We can also discuss the homeland and host land (the country to which we migrated).
- When people migrate to another country, sometimes they feel alienated. While utilising the opportunities worldwide, connection to homeland helps them psychologically and thereby to stay at peace.

If it comes to culture which acts as the roots of any human for his/her lifetime , and as we know all humans are not same even all people coming from same culture are not same then where is the difference??
so here I want to convey that along with giving cultural values and wings to kids there should be another factor taught to them that is – teach them how to differentiate what is wrong and what is right . As mentioned by this topic that nothing is perfect so even a culture is also not perfect in every aspect. Wings mean freedom by in which way???

According to Me roots, we can also relate this with the growth of the tree., the good root is needed for a good life of a tree and like this, a good root is also needed for the growth of a child and a growth of a relationship. Roots play an important role in the growth whether it is tree or human being. and like that wings have the same significance wings means freedom but for that good growth is must like that we say the growth of the bird he has wings to fly but don`t know how to fly and for this good root is required which help a bird to fly.

According to me root and wing both are important , you can’t separate one . Root and wing both maintain the balance of our life. Root means ground and wing means freedom. If plant a tree we have to nurture the tree and when tree clutch the soil then we think yes it can grow and one day it will be blossom with flowers and fruits we feel very happy just like a child takes birth , parents have to nurture then and gradually they will learn from their parents and grandparents. Accordingly he or she has grown up parents should give them freedom to explore in the world according to their own way but parents always guide them . Then sometimes children takes some decisions may be it is not good for them , at least they will think from where he is coming , his family’s culture etc. Without root people cannot reach his destination such as a tree cannot flourish without its root so root and wing both are essential.

Root and wing Is the perfect concept that how we should raise our children. Nowadays what parents do is that they sent their children to hostel in order to make them independent but that is totally wrong independence is not given this way. Because this is the growing phase and parents become unaware of what children wants and may be or may be not staying away from the love and proper care of parents some kind of depression they might can gain. So in my point of view what I felt instead of sending them far away from home, firstly they are nourished properly in their growing phase because what we sow is what we reap and later when they are young enough to make the differences bout what is wrong n what is right parents can give them space. Because what parents do is quite opposite 1st ,when the children require love n care of parents, they send them far. N when they require space they are behind their children. This is wrong concept what I feel.

  That’s right Sukanya. Children’s hostels are an option for those who cannot afford to keep their children with them. Sending children to hostels just to make them independent will not be a right decision.
