  • Since the invention of machines, there are debates on whether technological innovations are affecting human behaviour. With the drastic improvements in technology, our lives now revolve around technological devices. Social scientists observed that this is resulting in the deterioration of human qualities such as morality and intelligence in humans. Not everyone agrees with this statement of course. Let’s see the points to support and oppose the argument.

Yes, Technology is making us feel less human:

  • We are increasingly depending on technological devices to guide us. For example, we keep reminders on smartphones and google the questions for answers. We are outsourcing the activities that require intelligence to technology. Thinking, remembering things and analyzing are the essential qualities of humans. Too much dependence on technology is making us less human.
  • Many face to face communications are also replaced with virtual interactions. Many people are now living in virtual homes, which is the smartphone. As the need for talking with each other is reducing, the ability to communicate with each other which is a basic quality of living beings is declining.
  • Our decision-making skills are also getting affected as we are now asking search engines to know what is best. We are depending on the knowledge base of the internet even at offices to finish the work at hand. This affects cognitive skills ( to think, read, learn, remember, and reason), which is the essential quality of humans.
  • When someone is in trouble, some people are taking videos and pictures instead of helping them. This became a common thing these days. Dependence on technology is affecting our morality, our system of values and principles that decide which is right and which is wrong. This makes us wonder whether we are turning into machines.
  • Since the invention of machines, the value of workers is decreasing. They are made to work to support the machines. As a result, work revolves around machines and not humans. Workers are forced to work continuously along with the machine. Industrialization increased work hours. Workers faced inhuman conditions.  Humans cannot work and focus continuously like machines. Fast forward to today, we have technological devices to check how many hours we actually work. Some companies want to be connected 24 hours a day through emails and messages. This makes people feel less human.
  • Some companies are building strategies to use their apps for a longer time, to keep us addicted to their apps and devices so that they can show advertisements to us. And also they can use our data to manipulate our decisions for their profits. These strategies are turning humans into just targets.
  • People are now engaging in trolling and cyberbullying. Hiding behind devices is giving them the courage to harass other people, which they may not do face-to-face. This is the deterioration of moral values.

No, Technology is not making us less human:

  • Using technology, people are maintaining and improving relationships with their friends, family and relatives. Many people are also connecting with each other to help the needy and to inspire each other. So, now we have better tools to build human connections.
  • Technology is enabling us to work from home. This facility is helping employers to be more understanding towards employees. Many companies are now adding elements to work culture with the help of technology to make employees feel important.
  • Technology is just a tool. How we use it depends on us completely.

Conclusion:

Technology is a double-edged sword. If we allow, it may turn us into its slaves. It’s up to us to not let it make us feel less human. Technology is just a tool, and we need to trust our abilities more than machines. In developed countries, people are asking for their right to disconnect so that they can keep their mind off from work. Companies are now adding elements to work culture to make employees feel important. This is a progressive thing and a step towards designing a world where people comes first.

Technology is a double-sided sword. Technology has made life more convenient but at what cost? Since, the introduction of fossil fuels of as the primary source of energy for humanity in the 1800’s we have been slowly and steadily releasing pollutants into the atmosphere which will ultimately contribute to our own demise. We have perfected industrial factory farming which uses the finite resources and habitats of the planet at the expense of other species. We have diminished biodiversity to the point where there is now less than 10% of wild mammalian life on earth.

Social media can be a source of change, but increasingly we have become more distracted with companies constantly trying to sell us. Then separating us via algorithms that presents individuals with a narrowly focused world that we can not find consensus on tackling problems.

Technology is like everything else, it does not exist in a vacuum. It must have a moral and ethical component. This is what makes us human and not the technology we use. Unfortunately, short term market forces have been paramount in the decisions we have made with very little consideration for it’s long term effects.

    PEACE

No technology is not making us less human because according to upcoming and ongoing generation we all have to be upgraded ourselves with the upgraded technology and this will also help us in maintaining a status of whole country respect to technology aspects.
We can say that technology is a necessary need for any person for any reason of doing a work
For example, if we want to communicate to a person and that is not possible to communicate with his / her only due to the long distance between both the persons so it would also be done to communicate rather than apart from each other only because of technology
It will also help in making our small generation child regards to various upcoming technology related terms that extremely helps in exploring the mind and the ideas, creativity of individual child that also an initiative to uplifting the mentally growth of an individual child .
Our today’s official hacker that works for government now a days also aged 19 not any more , he is also from those children that tries to exploring and inventing new ideas that played a very major role in today’s technological word and that is also very big example for today’s and upcoming generation students..
Technology also helps in the part of education by ease of doing work without delaying and that is the major Problem for every student in today generation… By providing different technologies that is phone, laptop which is easily accessible and eases the work load , it provides technical robots that completed multi works at a time and can be work for a very long duration without discharging …..
Conclusion – it’s not good to say that technology making us less human because given above aspects seems that technology played a very big role in various parts of life to upgrading the status of country whether it’s in upgrading the growth of students as well as aged persons regarding technology related terms .

someone has said that ” Google search is not Research”, because of increasing dependency and things are systematically arranged over there.

“Let’s think one day Google gets deleted and people can’t even google to find out what happened to Google”

according to my opinion technology improves our lifestyle. technology makes our life easy. for example: if you want to transfer money to your friend and if technology is not so good. there is no option of netbanking and googlepay. you go to bank , stand in the queue for hours then you will transfer money. technology help in study if you are from rural area and their is no scope of coaching then you can study from YouTube. by work from home culture we can save time and money. so technology help us alot.

Before saying anything to this discussion,I would like to divert mind of my folks to the point that this is us ,human beings, who gave birth to the technology.the main motto of the technology is to provide ease in our work.we are creator and controller of it so how can it control us .Still if we look today’s scenerio ,it is maniulating us in various cases.
And the basic cause of this manipulation is our own mindset. It is upto us whether we want to live in a virtual world totally or partially.
There is no doubt in it that technology has ease out our lives but when it comes to intelligence ,morality and values ,technology is a curse.
For example, technology has provided us a platform to work and study from home which is obviously a quite good achievement but at the same time, technology has made education a business rather than a moral work.Various coaching institutes are using it as a source of business and at the same time they are creating a sense a doubt in students regarding their capability to do it by themselves.
A number of cases are available where technology is playing a double faced role so it is all up to us whether we allow virtual intelligence to dominate human intelligence or vice versa .And at last ,I will emphasize on this universal truth that we.human beings, are the master of technology and not vice versa.

Technology gives a new way of gaining knowledge.it improve the human knowledge by giving different ways. But only human can utilize these information and make the use of knowledge.
So the technology never make us feel less human.

yes, technology is making us less human as when ever there is a need for any emotional connect with our loved once for ex. any persons birthday etc. we virtually wish them or send gifts emotional connect is decreasing and not only this but the mental health of individual is also getting affected as people become so prone to technology they stop thinking situationally.

According to me technology is not making us less human in many ways like we have different social media sites in which we can connect with our friends and family members and even these sites are very beneficial and strong enough if someone uses this in a right manner. It’s a great platform if someone has a real talent and want to show the world through social media then they will get a fame. Even the unemployment getting removed by using LinkedIn in which they will provide us a job of our field in which we interested in.

  • Ankit, Sep 17, 2019 @ 8:27 am Reply

Yes, Technology makes us less human. At the new era technology can spread it out widely due to this reason humans connection can’t be strong enough. We can’t live without technology’s. Technology can affect basic human quality. Humans makes technology and machines, technology doesn’t makes humans.

  • Ashwin Chauhan, Aug 15, 2019 @ 4:36 pm Reply

Technology and machines are the part of our life,Yes it’s true that we cannot live without technology but that doesn’t mean that we have become less human through the inventions of technologies. we make the machines ,the machine doesn’t have brain and the AI is not boomed so much that it can take it’s own decision.Technology is used to make our life better nor to become slave of the technologies.Technological development in the world helps to become free of so many problems whether it’s medical, defence, lifestyle(to check our blood pressure through our watches) it’s just helping to make our life easy.it’s the human who has to choose how to use the technology and machine for himself and how he want to impact his life.

According to me Science is a great boon of our society as a human being we have to control ourselves. Technology is not making us less human rather we can do our work without much efforts. Even we don’t need to think we can go to straight Google search and type our subject within a second we get the answer. Through smart phone social media we can at a time maintain the relationship lot of friends , relatives. For example anything we don’t have idea but through Google search we can gather our knowledge. But some of the people technology use excessively that is not good. People like to busy always virtual world . We send messages and video calls. But we don’t have time to face to face. It is also important. People return from their workplace after that they are busy with the smartphone so family relation also getting hampered. Husband also busy , wife also busy with their smartphone. It creates the distance in family relation. Anything excessive is not good we have to use technology but should not slave.

Technology is not making less human, because in our hand how to use our brain instant or depending on technology .And every coin has two phase so we not said that technology making human lazy or less.In today era every person want not to put effort on any work.

    • Tinku Paul, Dec 9, 2019 @ 7:10 am Reply

Yes friends I agree with you every coin has two sides as a human being we have to use it consciously. Through technology any work we can do very easily and not only within a very short time and maintain the accuracy. If we work manually any mistake can happen through computer do it very easily. We want to send any urgent message in all over the world we can send it any message within very short time. So we can execute our work very easily. Science is the great boon of our society but as a human being we have to use it properly.
