India-Afghanistan relations:

  • In 1950, India and Afghanistan signed a 5-year treaty of friendship. In 1996, when the Taliban came to power, India didn’t have good relations with the government. After the US overthrew the Taliban in 2001, India took part in the development of Afghanistan and invested 3 billion dollars in building infrastructure in the country. India had very good relations with Afghanistan from 2001-2021.
  • Bilateral trade between India and Afghanistan has crossed the US$1.5 billion in the financial year 2019-2020.
  • Now, a senior leader of the Taliban has said that they want to have good relations and trade with India.
  • Under operation Devi Shakti, India has been evacuating Indian citizens and foreign nationals from Afghanistan after the Taliban took over the country.
  • India did not give recognition to Taliban rule yet.
  • But, as the Taliban are closely associated with Pakistan, India is apprehensive about the future of India-Afghanistan relations. Moreover, China is a friend of Pakistan and hence both Pakistan and China may influence key decisions in Afghanistan that can impact Indo-Afghan relations.
  • India and the world countries are waiting and watching how the Taliban regime evolve this time. All the countries want the Taliban to respect human rights. Only then, many countries will approach the Taliban for the continuation of trade and other relations.

Taliban overthrew the Afghanistan government to establish a Muslim state in Afghanistan and to get recognition for it. As the events have unfolded till now we can see that cross border terrorist activities have increased near the Indo-Pak border and the Indian Army has repeatedly said that the terrorist had weapons that were more advanced and more dangerous. This shows that terrorists in Pakistan have access to US weapons that they left behind in Afghanistan when they fled the country. This shows that Pakistan and the Taliban are working together against our interests.
Moreover, we cannot just leave the investments that we made in Afghanistan over a period of 2 decades in the hands of the barbaric Taliban regime. It is our moral duty to protect our interests and to prevent any sort of human rights violation South Asian region. So we must maintain a close watch and conduct a bilateral dialogue to maintain the interest of both parties.

So, as an Indian if you ask my opinion I shall say that there is a great threat to India if we recognize Taliban a s a government. We all know what Taliban has done in past as well as in the present scenario they are just thrashing the HUMAN VALUES, freedom and everything. So, yeah this was one opinion regarding the security and human values.

The other opinion is regarding the trade thing which is gonna hit us badly as well as to them also since if we just take the previous financial year in which we had done a bilateral trade over US.$1.5 billion. The things which were much cheaper before the formation of Taliban government things such as Dry fruits which were available at cost effective price but now if we see in the markets the price are touching the skies which is not good for a common man.

In the end i conclude to a point that being neighbors we(India) need to be more watchful then others because we are going to face in every aspect if we leave a single loop hole in any terms.`

As per my opinion, the Taliban should focus more on development rather than imposing a religious rule on the people of the country they should think like today and should work on the growth of the nation by providing better opportunities to every citizen of the country without any discrimination based on gender as well as religion.
There Government should make policies to provide technical and modern as well upgraded knowledge to their youth. They also should not involve in any terrorist group or any terrorist activity. They should show the world that they were changed and respect human rights and maintain peace in the country and also make good relation with other countries for better future .

I believe India should keep watching the activity of the Taliban, and countries around the world should have a committee to keep watch on the same.

imo tlaiban is just trying to gain good ties with fellow countries as seen in moscow. So that in case of anti social activities there wouldn’t be too much pressure on afghanistan by UN
