  • In July 2022, illicit liquor took the lives of more than 40 people in Gujarat state, where manufacturing, sale, consumption, import and export of alcohol are banned.

Arguments in favour of the Alcohol ban:

  • When alcohol is available abundantly, the chances of drinking it will be higher. When alcohol is banned, people will not have access to alcohol and hence they won’t get addicted to it. Moreover, consuming alcohol can cause physical and mental health issues. So, the alcohol ban can prevent this.
  • Many families are slipping below the poverty line due to heavy spending on alcohol. So, an alcohol ban can save these families from the financial drain.
  • Alcohol addiction can often result in domestic violence. Banning alcohol completely can reduce the domestic abuse incidents to a great extent.
  • Alcohol addiction do not just impact the addicted person but his/her entire family. Hence alcohol ban can save many families.
  • Crimes and accidents under the influence of alcohol have become a common thing. So, alcohol ban can save many lives directly and indirectly.

Arguments against the Alcohol ban:

  • Alcohol ban is against the right to eat and drink.
  • In the states, where alcohol ban is imposed, illicit liquor manufactured using toxic chemicals is abundantly available. Most of the people who drink this are poor people, because they cannot buy costly smuggled alcohol like rich people. As a consequence, in the states, where alcohol ban is imposed, spurious liquor is taking many lives. Over the years, several people died after consuming illicit liquor. Several others are facing severe health issues.
  • Use of drugs can also increase due to non-availability of regulated and safe alcohol.
  • Many people, who are working in the Alcohol industry will lose their jobs.

Facts:

  • As of now, some states including Bihar, Gujarat, Mizoram, and Nagaland imposed ban on manufacturing, sale, consumption, import and export of alcohol. De-addiction centers were opened in the states, where the ban is imposed.
  • A few countries including Yemen, Sudan, Somalia imposed complete ban on alcohol.
  • Social activists are divided over alcohol ban. A few social activists support alcohol ban to prevent crimes, domestic violence and alcohol addiction. A few other social activists mention that the alcohol ban will only rise the supply of illicit liquor and mafias.

Conclusion:

If alcohol ban is imposed, strict action should be taken against the suppliers of spurious liquor. Moreover, there should be more de-addiction centers with sufficient human resources to help the alcohol addicts. If alcohol ban is not imposed, awareness programs should be conducted to make public aware the physical and mental health issues caused by the consumption of alcohol. Availability of regulated and safe alcohol is much better than the availability of toxic and illegal alcohol.

Alcohol must be banned immediately all over India. It is eating into the vitals of the society. Governments can earn revenue from other alternative sources and not at the cost of society at large. In addition, steps must be taken for de-addiction of the people who are addicted to it and illegal brewing and trade must be punished heavily to ensure that the ban is effective.

    Hello,
This is Vivek Kumar Shukla .

According to me, all type of crimes which happen in India ,almost 90 percent are under effect are Alcohol ,because after drinking the alcohol a person losses his mind about what to do & what not to do.
Domestic violence, murder, rapes etc. maximum are done under the consumption of Alcohol .
Even the accused of Nirbhaya case did this crime under the Alcohol only .
So, from my side ,it is big yes that Alcohol should be banned ,if we actually want to stop such kind of crimes .

While those things are true it can cause health issues and can increase domestic violence and can increase financial problems a total ban will increase crime and violence also as the ban on alcohol in the United States in the 20’s and 30’s has proven. Instead increased education of the effects of alcohol. The use of alcohol reinforces the already present behaviors people. the individual who commit domestic violence are prone to domestic violence and they will continue to commit it without alcohol all that is the proper trigger same for fiscal irresponsibility the need for education starting at a young age along with stiff punishment for those who can’t control their drinking things like rehabilitation, lengthy probation and random alcohol testing with additional punishment for violating probation.

Saying that domestic violence is the cause of alcohol is not true as we see it is merely a way of hiding somebody’s intentions or saving me.

according to me alcohol ban will be a great initiative to save our youth from drugs , but completely banning it would not be a good option because a major chunk of tax is collected form alcohol and other drugs like tobacco . what needs to be done is there should be a card system in which whenever a person buys alcohol entry should be done and it should state how much quantity he bought .
and this card will be unique and will be linked to adhar card so that people dont have multiple cards in order to buy more . and there will be a limit to each and every person that how much in a month a person can buy , and if he buys more force fully he would have to pay fine or for him more amount of tax can be introduced . in this way according to me we will be able to limit the consumption of alcohol at the same time the govt. will also be able to collect tax , because if we totally ban alcohol the govt. wont be able to collect revenue and the alcohol addicts will also have a problem . so according to me the above solution would be more acceptable.

Education starting at a young age and removal from TV and movies of the glorification of drugs and alcohol will help the most. Along with rasing the legal drinking age and open rehabilitation centers for those unable to pay and follow on support system to help with the continued sobriety and stiff punishment for the committing crimes while under the influence of drugs and alcohol including under age drinking.

According to me alcohol should be bann in india. If it is possible then our country will be save. For alcohol in every sections people are suffer. Specially poor peoples section suffer more because their sons husbend cannot give money for their family maintenance.somewhere we see molestation iffteagin quarrel ing fighting etc. Everything are happening in our society day and night. For cons I can say if it is bann then our government will be looser because alcohol business earn more money so government should take a process if all will stay blessed in our India.

In my opinion alcohal ban is great step becauses its causes domastic voilence , crime, accident, like many things occured.but government should ban it strictly because we always see in news that black alcohal selling by shopkeeper at higher rates in ban states.

Ban on alcohol is good, but it alone shall not work out. Awareness on ill effects of drugs and mental well being / alternative thinking / awareness on high risk behavior/ faithfulness on family affairs are to be seeded. Parental care will help a lot in this subject.

According to me Alcohol should be completely Banned in India. if Alcohol is banned in India poorer section women like daily wager , labourer they will get relief ,they will be very happy. Most of the labour class people like rickshaw puller , daily wager they work whole day and end of the day they get their remuneration and spend their money to take Alcohol. They don’t want to pay their family even when wife ask them for money to meet the family expenses ,they beat up their wife and children and quarrel with with them. As a result women they have to work to meet family expenses , even they can’t afford their children to go to the school. Secondly if Alcohol is banned, crime will be reduced like rape, molestation, murder. Most of the time we see people involve the bad activities ,that time they were drunk.
